Today our dear friend Mathew is leaving the city to settle back in Goa,his hometown.
Usually such a decision is taken by people who have spent a good many years toiling their ass off in distant, foreign, richer lands and come back with a fat bank account, tired but secured in life. Matt took his retirement plans early. Way too early.
Nevertheless, we wish the best for him. He will begin a new venture in Goa and that would be exciting and also a great security for him.
I will remember Matt for his simplicity and unique Goaness. I never had Goan friends and was happy to meet him plus few others in Doha. He symbolised every image of Goa that I had - sea, sand, good times, smiles and chilling out. Always smiling, always chilled out and jokes that aren't cosmo, but soaked in innocence. Plus he was immensely talented in the one hobby I was always fascinated of - fishing! :)
The 2 beach trips with all of us were filled with stories of his fishing genious and knowledge of the sea. Another innate Goaness!
I have heard stories of his excellent crab curry, had tasted his chicken curry and we have gone fishing with him. In a span of 45 minutes we caught about 20 crabs, half by him!
Good times.Good friend! Thats Matt for us!
With his crab catch!
