Spiral Bound

I am a planner. I love having to know how my day will go. I like a blueprint, a draft or a page to let my week go by. I may be a nerd by commercial opinion but that's just how I roll. The reason is one because it comes naturally to me and also that I tend to get VERY lazy. If I don't make myself do certain chores, at the end of the day I am in a spot.

I am not a perfectionist. I don't like tangents or completeness but I like direction. I usually tend to get my wits about and make sure I have time to do things which are important for health of mind and body. Like working out or reading. Mind you I love these. But managing a home of two and half men(husband, brother and my son) is not easy when you are a bookworm, a movie freak, a wannabe blogger and a dreamer. I mean I sometimes just like to sit with a cup of tea and dream or long for places, get lost in nostalgia or end up envying someone's pics (yes I can be juvenile like that).

So before I drift away, the point is that as much as I can be lazy, I also make a pretty good Mayor of my life. This trait is all good except when you don't live in the moment and when you dont allow yourself to filter out not-so-important things.

For Example. Today, after a busy week of late night dinners, tired evenings and haphazard reading times, I managed to have moment with my husband and kid. We were talking and retiring for the noon nap. We were talking about weekend and then shifted to fun, gusty babble. My spiral bound mind, however, immediately wanted to list 4 things I had to do in the evening, one of them was watching Shah Rukh's talk on Film Companion. Yes it sounds ridiculous and I am a homemaker not UN Secretary General. I don't demean myself when I say that every role has its depth, but really, how swamped am I to not differentiate merry from mar-mari?

To be honest,24 hours is long enough. Its the to-do page of my mind which is longer. Most of it perceived than necessary. Too many links bookmarked, too many movies out there to watch. I am proud of my TBRs (that's To Be Read, for the unfortunate people who don't read *smirking* ) but I am not proud that I also have a waiting 'Cart' of books on my Amazon account which is directly proportional to the length of TBR. The more I read the more I buy and the more I hoard. Let me tell you here that money is not so much the issue, but its the dhai kilo ka haath  pressure on my head which tells me ...MORE... GET....ACHIEVE.

I crie.

Whom should I blame... The media? My bookmarks? Me? The apps which promises to make life easy but only add up? Celebrities and politicians? (since we blame them for everything) Arnab?

And hence I just made a blame list! Another list. Kudos.

L e t L i f e

Break the waves
Block the wind
Take the loop
Swing the chain away
Throw the clock
Move the track
Ride the silence
Pause the click
Listen to a hen clack
Weave in space
Let the silver lining in

Interlude within.

Lamplight Leads

What guides you? Where do you get your inspiration....to think,to create,to just appreciate a moment in the favourite calm corner of your home,an unsually pretty flower, the first drops of rain, a well turned out pie?

An idea guides to an invention or plan. And the idea is guided by? ...Imagination, dream, thought, enlightenment? Where do any of the above comes from? God, a force, an unseen power? (For me personally, its God)

Lets not debate atheism, religion or lack of either.

Whatever guides you, the point is to lead you somewhere or to something.
Simply accept the lamplight within you which removes darkness.

Consumed and Completed

The bank of the river
Sometimes visited by the ripples
But completed by the feet which kisses it.

In our existence
We are known by our deeds
But defined by our vices.
We are consumed by thoughts
But completed by memories.

Portend the bend in the road

When the disciples asked Jesus to show them a sign that signals his return and end of the world, they were worried and yet curious.

Most of the time we too are like them. We are curious, apprehensive and want to know all. We want to solve everything ahead of coming to the bridge, let alone wait to cross it. Its not enough that our guardians teach us through their mistakes, we still want to 'worry'.

I believe, and this is through many small and big experiences of mine and of my closest ones' life, that, to look ahead in life you do need to look back once. In fact more than once. This is not to say that you should live in your past. Just like you would check both sides of the road before you cross the road, you should in your rational, sane moments take a glance back and remember how a certain situation made you a better ,wiser person. Then take that wisdom again and put it wherever you are stuck. Ready, go.

Our past, sometimes, portends our future. How we are today is a sign of what paths we pave in this journey and ,to quote Anne Shirley, 'the bend in the road' which turns for the better.

5th Dec'14 WriteAlm prompt - Melt

From rebel to maturity
From defiance to decision
From cold to cuddlesome
From mountain to pebbles
From war to warmth
From shrugs to hugs
From hate to happy
From ice to water
From hard to hearty

From dew to drops which brings the morning to life.

When one form changes into another, the world breathes fresher.

When the toughest part of you melts, the world around you becomes a beautiful place.

Prayer with Life

In life we go through many experiences. A simple routine bus ride, weekly grocery shopping and other frequent activities end up being some experience or the other.

So what can be an extraordinary experience? - Prayer, combined with  learnings from incidents . You may have been saying the same prayer now which you did some years ago. But it is life's certain  phases which makes us all the more thankful or yearning in prayer when we say it. To explain this, I'll share a story of my friend.

She was going through a phase of hopelessness when  her job wasn't paying well and she had problems with marriage. I have been with her for quite some years and have known her to be a religious girl. At the same time I would always see worry lines on her face and quiet moments with herself. In the last 2 years, nothing dramatically changed with regard to her job or marriage, but her belief in God and his ability to eventually make her life better was remarkable. Inspiring, rather. She is more relaxed now and taking one day at a time.
Her prayer rituals are the same but she is sincere when she asks for something. She counts her blessings and is generous in her gratitude.

We can keep on praying and keep on worrying. These two can be parallel but that is a meaningless journey. Prayer combined with mature living and learning from yesterday's experience is all mixed in a roller coaster called life! and that is when you stop being religious and become spiritual.

Emotional Diet

I chanced upon the concept suddenly yesterday when I was moody about something. One of the weakest moments in life when you end up thinking nothing is working for you, and that thought is also in past and future tense- 'nothing worked for me'  and  'nothing will ever work out!' People don't love you. The weather isn't great. You don't make enough money, sob!sob! Grass is greener on the other side and their's a garden too there! Day begins and ends with a sigh? Aye Aye!

Don't make your heart sigh
Get up. Get going
Don't bulk up those feelings
Assume,consume and fume.
If you can't find a song,get a tune
Get on an emotional diet,
Your life only you can define.

This is no motivational talk or class, people. Not because you don't see a subscribe-to-my-class button yet,but as the blog says, it's about personal experiences combined with a thought coming out of the blue. There are certain feelings one needs to discard that are fat full, will bloat you up, give you cholesterol and we all know what happens to diabetic and high pressure people!

It's true.People will not have time for you 24/7. What with job insecurity, children, marriage, new chapters, new spouses, sometimes even new neighbors they can't focus on you all the time. That does not mean you assume the worst and give yourself bp(baseless points) leading to BP (blood pressure).

Grapes are not always sour. You have to get a ladder or call the tallest dude in your gang. 2 things happen here. One - the dude will appreciate how much you depend on him/her as a friend. Second- the effort you put in to get a ladder goes back to the old saying - God helps those who helps themselves.

Blood is thicker than water. Yes we know. Also, water is precious. Save water...etc. Conclusion - both are important. We need a balance. Neither should be neglected.

Don't judge a book by it's cover. The same applies to strangers, in-laws and co-passengers . Just because your uncle-in-law frowns at you doesn't mean he is the devil's messenger. Throw such cholesterol creating assumptions away. Lighten your mind.

You really cannot have your cake and eat it too. Your loved ones will give you your share of love at the
appropriate time. Anymore than this and you will get 'love handles'. Very intentional pun here.

Religion - Don't be religious, be spiritual. God doesn't want to get diabetic with all your show of offerings. You will definitely not get diabetic on account of him! Because he is logical. You can't fast on food  and fast on no communication to people of other religion, race, rite or rule at the same time.

Goals are good. But if your life, everyday, is goal oriented, then the stress will burn you out very soon. Single people wait to get married. Married people wait to get richer. Pills and plastic surgery. Silicon implants to silicon valley. The pressure pattern is something like this :

30-60-90
first 30 years of our lives - getting trained -by parents, teachers ,employers.
from 30 to 60  -  training - by spouse (either ways),children training, team training
60 to hope you live longer - getting trained by everyone in a way as if you never lived before 60.

Yes our lives have to get better, but in the process don't lose the essence of living.

Urgently, purposefully, absolutely plan time to just be idle. Let those fat full goals melt away

My mistakes will never end :) I'll come back with more experiences. So for now,I'll leave you with few words of one of my fav songs from my fav band - Eagles. ( Yeah, I can totally go diabetic on them!! ) :)

Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to take your stand and

take it easy.......
