Home land

I do not need a Republic day or 15th Aug to remind me to be patriotic.
In between work when I sit back tired,I remember the noise of my friends in my previous office in India. The warm chatter in Hindi and other languages. The richness I have felt of the diversity of my country.
When I pass Indian restaurants here, the sheer aroma of our food beckons me....not just inside, but back to my country.
When the lack of green makes my eyes cry, these eyes yearn for a little dirt, some kuccha homes, the crooked galli, the annoying telephone lines and the green, lively background.
When the ears are filled with deafening silence and sophisticated gestures,I dream of the colors of Holi, multitude shouting 'Ganapati bappa Moriya!' and tired pot-bellied uncles shouting 'saale, kamine!' with road rage...
Each moment my senses are homesick, then I'm patriotic!

Happy Republic Day to all Indians and those who know how it is to be away from that magical land!

  1. Thats patriotic and thats homesickness.
Come to think of it, there is a thin line dividing that.
That deafening silence and sophisticated gestures are so true :-)
