Kappa!

In Kerala, the time for planting Tapioca has come. The field ahead my home is cleared of growing grass and big rocks. The tapioca sticks are dug and then there will a period of rest for Dad and his worker Rajan.
As the months go by the field will be  a glory to watch. Green lushy leaves of tapioca adorn the view and rains add a charm.
Then when the harvest time comes work will start again. Digging out the tapioca, checking for defected ones and carefuly sorting out good ones takes up one’s days. There is a ‘mela’ of opinions, laughs, work and rounds and rounds of ‘kattan kaapi’. What better way to sweat off all the beef fat from one’s body!

Finally when tapioca is in your kitchen, the fish comes home. The ubiquitous ‘meen curry’ and ‘kappa’ is made. Ah! the toils of labour!
