My Reading Takeaways

In school one day in the morning assembly, our principal Sr.Flavian said 'when you read, note down the words you do not know the meaning of. Then find the meaning and understand your book better.' Excellent advice. I implemented it and thus has helped me a lot with essays, notes writing etc.

Today I decided to take her advice further. Since a few weeks, the thought of books and their core value remaining long afterwards has been lingering in my head. I wanted this value to be put down in ink or click. Convincing confusions, interesting phrases, funny lines, introspective thoughts of the author are just some examples of what I derive from my reading. Great and good authors always leave a part or whole of their self behind in you, long after you have stacked the book back in the 'read' section. Having their musings sealed in a quote, in your diary, journal, tweet ,pic or blog is bringing those musings  in our lives and in our social sphere. Let your friends, Romans, layman and followers be interested in a different way in your life.

Some bullets :

- Disturbing yourself during reading to note down a line you think quote-worthy is like a push and pull situation.  Who would like to put down Gone Girl when Flynn tells you how a woman's mind works? (and your mobile is far away..I mean...jitters!..esp those who have read Gone Girl would know)

- Once your chapter or para is over, if you remember the line or phrase ,jot it, tweet or keep the notepad ready, geeks.  Those who don't have their phone memory full with their selfies can just take a pic.

- Don't photo copy the book. Don't give the plot out. Just the essence.

- New authors, unusual genres should be given special attention. Encourage and explore.

- Lessen the # if you tweet. Too much silicon.

- Do not requote the famous quotes. Everyone knows a Wilde from a Wordsworth. What the world wants is originality.  Just gather the flakes of the beautiful snow, not the snowman.

I enjoy this process as much as I love reading. Kinda like my very own reading journal.

Reach out. Read out.
