Domino Effect

Some years ago,at the MBA induction ,the personality development workshop guy said 'stop to smell the roses' I suspected he is preparing us for a career in the 'horrorporate' where there is no natural oxygen for rose bushes whatsoever.
Today I have been half proved right  or the glass is half empty. Whatever makes you happy dude.

So its true as they say. Life post college is about deadlines and meeting them or die meeting them. Its not easy,we all know it. Actually life is tougher for kids now right from they start crawling and that brings relief to the parents knowing 'that' milestone is reached so much earlier than they were apprehensive about! And the milestones never cease. Like the Indian national highways with yellow and white road postings on the side which never seem to end (esp if you are headed to Goa or any non-in laws place).

Many targets is many expectations which is so much stress.

What can we do then? Stop setting goals? Not dream? Live on a mountain?

Not possible (though I do want to have a cottage in Shimla or Wayanad), but why cant we selectively pluck some aspects of simple living into our clobbered lives and live as such?

For eg. when you dream of a relaxed and perfect life, what do you think of?  a garden, a trip, lots of money, not having to work? Well some things may not be achievable or practical presently, but small things are.
Get a garden going on ,even if its just two herb or money plants for those living in apartments.

Take small, cheap trips to certify your travel lust.

Take mid week holidays if you can, instead of glorifying the weekend as the only source of fun.

Make a different rice dish just to surprise your plate.

Read a book which is not the genre you read usually.

The idea is to break the domino effect of stress which makes you think that happiness only lies in 'that weekly restaurant eating' or 'my yearly trip' or 'birthday gift'. Don't put a time table on your wishes. Isn't your alarm clock enough?
