Encouragement by Emily Brontë
The poem is very autobiographical in nature, because Bronte reflects on her own childhood vberfet of a mother when she passed away leaving Bronte at just age three.
I do not weep; I would not weep;
Our mother needs no tears:
Dry thine eyes, too; ’tis vain to keep
This causeless grief for years.
The poem is about profound grief of the children and of the family. But as the poem progresses, it also speaks about the bravery they have to have to lead their lives forward. ‘needs no tears’ is symbolic of that, almost a call for the battle that is life without their matriarch.
