The Town Poor - Sarah Orne Jewett - 247 / 365 of reading one short story every day.


The Town Poor, which appeared in the July 1890 issue of the Atlantic Monthly is about community and helping your neighbors. In the story, women from a nearby church come to the rescue of two invalid sisters confined to an unheated attic.


In the story,  the characters are resilient in their poverty and compassionate towards those in need. The story focus on the rural lives of elderly women and their attempts to live with dignity and security.
