The poem Peder Paars was published in four parts in the period 1719 – 1720. It is a satirical-comic poem reflecting on the tradition of old ancient heroic epics. In the poem, Holberg makes fun of many powerful people in his day. The result was possible threats to Holberg, but it is known that the then ruling king approved the poem when he was informed that the plot was fictitious.
