Five things I cannot do without

I am no Buzz Feed so listicles isn't my scene. However when asked recently by my friend about how do I manage a household where two and a half men( my husband, brother in law and my son) don't help at all. I immediately answered - by prioritizing my work. When asked to elaborate, I ended up saying the top 3 chores I always make sure gets done. So you see we do end up with lists and numbers in our life.

A man or a smart woman needs a bunch to make it to their list of 'my favourite things'. Maybe roses and sometimes whiskers on kittens but chances are that all of these will be in a phone, right? Though, does happiness really reflect from a screen? I am sure there is more life in bricks than clicks!

Here is five things I cannot do without- Non-negotiable.

1. Having a book by my side. Or in sight.

I may not read it diligently. I barely manage to read five pages at a time but I know that I am in good company. I like to glance at a hardbound whenever I pass the dining hall to the kitchen to finish off that chore. You know like you go to the clinic for an injection and you see a friendly soul and talk away till your appointment. The example may be inaccurate but you get the point.

2. Looking at something green atleast a couple of times a day.

On my plate, in the corner of the room, on the bedsheet ( a leaf print I meant) , when I open the wardrobe. I love greens, beans, pesto, avocado. There is a sense of being with nature which is so soothing. Especially for people who live in an urban jungle.

3. Fresh hot tea. Coffee on Thursdays when the week has proved to be a b%$# everytime.

My cup of life is usually brimming with common sense but there are days when it feels I may drown (or drown someone else). For such days I recommend coffee. Otherwise good old elaichi tea for the everyday.

4. Talking to a friendly soul about anything under the sun. That will be Rashmi my Jockey friend ( chaddi buddy re)

If only Whatsapp could transport besties :(

5. Finding a new word

May sound weird but I love this. I come across something while reading the paper or a book and I note it down (schoolmarm alert!). I then love Wikiing it. I like how one info can take you to read multiple other stories and information.

I know, I am definitely interesting company for a party!

What are your cant-do-without things? Does it change or remains constant with each phase of life?
