What a wonderful weekend! Barbecue by the beach and crab hunting.
Started with shopping for barbecue. Coals, flames, steak fillets and kebabs and storing up all that plus tons of excitement!
Knowing me and with all my pre planning I decided to have a mix of both - little planning and rest leave to the last minute. Result of which, I rushed with packing and did not carry a hairband. :)
We started with a SUV loaded with - people and packs. Drove for around 1 hour to Al Khor and reached a bare beach. Ahem!, I mean no trees and very few people. The confusion to which side would be best was nice as Rol got a sound hearing from preggy Tan :) We finally bumped and jerked to a nice spot. Parking the 2 vehicles to an angle which gave shade,we all got out. One by one,the things came out. Mats, barbecue stuff, fishing stuff, food, water and hidden from us girls - drinks!
It was interesting to see the barbecue preparations. More importantly, it was great to see the lazy men get to work. I guess intricacies of the coal, flames and the mysterious ways of finally seeing the orange tints in the coal excites them to no end. We started cooking the sausages and the steaks immediately. Yummy stuff!
Mathew got busy with preparing for his favorite hobby - fishing. It was a discovery to see what details go into it. 2 big flashlights-which later I understood why-and the batteries for it.
The sun wasn't so hot because of the incoming winter and the water was till ankle level. The first of its kind which I have experienced. From far, when you see people walking on it, it makes you wonder, and then when you walk on it yourselves, you revel in that wonder!
Munching on chips and little bit of steaks we passed time talking ,laughing and fooling around. Rol went jogging cutely after a plastic cover which blew away in the wind to the sea. Environmentally friendly people you see ! :) Later me and Smitha did the same thing. A little ahead was a rock which gave way to Rol's photgraphic imagination. Took a couple of group pics, fun pics, crazy pics and ofcourse self portraits and sat there enjoying the slow, lazy sunset.
Then some of us were off to catch crabs. Mathew ingenuity was soon realised. A true Goan,he caught about 20 crabs as if he was picking marbles from ground. I just managed to catch 1 crab and saw some pass by me! My hubby caught 2 or so and Rol caught some more. If we had time we would have cooked them there. As it grew darker we were further away from the shore and though it gave a eerie feeling, it felt good to play hide and seek with the crabs! We poor fellas felt like glorious National Geographic discoverers !!! :) :)
We came back and rested. It began to grow chilly and I slipped inside our car and lied down. A small headache would have ruined my evening, but thankfully Tan came in too and we chatted for a long time about life, quickly passing days and the various thoughts which a peaceful outing like this by a beach will make anyone think. :) It was nice to lie back and stare at the starry sky and chat with a dear friend knowing that the good people in your life are also somewhere close by.
Billy,Rol,Prid and Mathew came back with more catch. Proud at their achievement, they took snaps with - what else - the fishes !! Sat for some time more with more steaks, chutney sandwich and drinks. Then the evening wrapped up soon. We said goodbye to the crabs who managed to escape us and buried the coal deep in the sand.
